Greg Freed, LCSW — Austin Therapist (he/him)

Before I was a therapist, I was a social worker. Before that, I studied languages and literature and considered going into academia. I value the roundabout path I took to this work; my mentor in graduate school told me, “A breadth of experience expands our understanding and makes us better therapists.”

Getting to see the variety in people's experiences has been the foundation of what I do. Earlier in my career I helped people get fairer sentences by understanding their circumstances deeply enough to present them to judges and DAs. Sometimes I just helped folks get the lights turned back on, but I got a look into a lot of different lives. Those experiences are with me when I talk with people now, as a therapist, about patterns in their work lives and love lives.

I rely on my education and training, but I rely even more on my experience and the range of people who have shared some of their lives with me in more than 20 years of this work.

Let's talk about where to begin.

What I Do

What I Don't

What I Don't

I provide talk therapy to individual adults.

I see clients in person in north central Austin, off Spicewood Springs near MoPac.

I do teletherapy with clients located anywhere in Texas, California, or Illinois.

I talk with a lot of people who identify as LGBT or queer, though I also welcome straight folks!

What I Don't

What I Don't

What I Don't

I don't talk much about mental health diagnoses, which I  believe are fine as a rough way of getting a handle on a problem, but rarely get under the rock of your reasons.

I don’t give homework unless you’re really into it.
